Newcastle manager
Graeme Souness will be without nine first-team players for Saturday's FA
Cup third round clash with Mansfield. Michael Owen (foot) and Scott
Parker (knee) both underwent surgery this week and will be out for up to
three months and five weeks respectively, while Lee Bowyer is suspended
and Amdy Faye is on international duty with Senegal, although Stephen
Carr returns after a hernia operation. Emre, Kieron Dyer and Craig Moore
(all hamstring), Steven Taylor (shoulder) and Shola Ameobi (hip), are
all out.
Mansfield boss Peter Shirtliff could be without four key players.
Midfielder Jonathan D'Laryea has been refused permission to play by
full-time employers Manchester City and Callum Lloyd is a major doubt
after twisting his ankle in training. Striker Chris Beardsley
remains sidelined with a broken leg and Simon Brown could miss out
following the recurrence of a hamstring injury.
