Poland finished as one of the European Zone's best second-placed teams.
This will be their 2nd consecutive FIFA World Cup and their seventh in
total. They failed to progress from the group stage in 2002 after losing
to host South Korea and Portugal before winning the final game against
USA. Poland have a balanced team including the likes of Artur Boruc,
Jacek Bak, Jacek Krzynowek and Maciej Zurawski.
Ecuador finished
third, behind continental superpowers Brazil and Argentina to reach
their 2nd appearance on world football's biggest stage. Ecuador made
their World Cup debut in 2002 when they finished last in their Group
losing 2-0 to Italy and 2-1 to Mexico before recording their first World
Cup win with a 1-0 victory against Croatia. They include 9
members of the Korea/Japan 2002 squad who failed to advance from the
group stage plus new young talents like Luis Valencia and Cristian Lara.
They have a clean bill of health.
They have met in a
friendly played in Spain last year where Poland came on top with a 3-0
victory. That was just a friendly and may not be taken into account but
a 3 goal victory should give the Poles a slight psychological advantage.
On a 1/2 ball handicap, Poland is the bet here.
