Outgoing coach
Avraham Grant, who resigned last October after Israel failed to qualify
for this year's World Cup finals, named a 24-man squad for his final
match in charge. Israel finished third in their World Cup qualifying
group behind France and Switzerland after unbeaten in their last 10
matches with four wins and six draws. Hapoel Tel Aviv coach Dror Kashtan
will only take charge in June.
Jon Dahl Tomasson
is one of four players to have withdrawn from Denmark's squad for their
friendly international against Israel in Tel Aviv on Wednesday because
of injury. Coach Morten Olsen has named four replacements including
Rangers striker Peter Lovenkrands for VfB Stuttgart's Tomasson, uncapped
OB Odense midfielder Nikolai Stokholm for Brondby's Per Nielsen, Brian
Priske of Portsmouth for Borussia Moenchengladbach's Kasper Bogelund and
Soren Berg of Odense replaces Schalke 04's Soren Larsen. The match was
in doubt because of security concerns after the wave of violent protests
in the Middle East and Asia over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad first
printed in a Danish newspaper last year. But the Danish Football
Association (DBU) decided to play the game after advice from the Danish
security police.
